Title Alternative Management of Rural Region in Association with Its Regionality of the Western Part of Tottori Prefecture

Abstract In this paper the brief history, the status quo and the problem of regional management in association with its regionality were examined in Yodoe town and Mizokuchi town in the western part of Tottori Prefecture. These areas have the focus of Yonago city. Mt. Daisen and Kaike-spring have been well-known, and Tottori Flower Park recently attracts many tourists. However, agriculture also flourishes remarkably in these areas. Although Yodoe town has been celebrated for the waters and traditional umbrella, the town management recently makes the most of acorn and ancient tombs, giving emphasis to international relations and history. In Mizokuchi town the oldest legend of ogre has been investigated intently and the town management in connection with it has been proceeded. As these plannings use their histories and features peculiar to the area as a management concept, they have high originality. As a future problem, it may be necessary to built up a closer connection and coordinate each regional functions within the extensive areas.

Title Alternative Diversity of Agricultural Production and Its Change in Tottori Prefecture

Abstract In this paper, diversity of agricultural production and its change was examined for some 45 years in Japan and for 1960, 1980, and 2000 in Tottori prefecture. The concept of entropy was used in order to measure the diversity of the agricultural production which consists of some sections. Agricultural production section in Japan has been diversified in the long run. The ratio of rice has been decreasing gradually for a policy of cutting back on the acreage under cultivation. Although the ratio of stock raising and fruits has increased, it tends in recent years to stagnate. The rate of vegetables has increased remarkably. Combination type for every municipalities was determined with the standard value A method, and complemented examination of agricultural diversity.

Title Alternative Long-term Change Trend of Climate at Aomori City

Abstract Characteristics of long-term change for air temperature, precipitation and snowfall-depth at Aomori city were analyzed with data during the 111 years, from 1886 to 1996. The typical results were as follows: (1) The increasing rate of the annual mean air temperature was 1.07℃/111 year. (2) The increasing rate of the monthly minimum air temperature was larger than that of the monthly maximum air temperature. (3) The increasing rate of the monthly air temperature was large from winter to spring, however, was not so from summer to autumn. (4) The decreasing rate of annual precipitation was 0.187 mm/year. (5) The 5-year moving average of annual snowfall-depth might indicate the existence of about 10-year period.

Abstract Surface states of ceramic particles such as SiO(2), Al(2)O(3), Si(3)N(4) and so on suspended in aqueous alkaline solutions were successfully and easily determined by a potentiometric titration method. Isoelctric point, iep and excess surface charge density were classified and evaluated for many ceramic particles from the view points of aggregation and dispersion of particles and solubility in aqueous solution.

Title Alternative Preparation of Biodegradable Polymer Microcapsules Enclosing Anti-mite Agent

Abstract Many kinds of mite was caused by allergy and sick house syndrome, so it has become one of the social problems. Farnesyl acetone is one of the most potent anti-mite agent. However the vapor pressure of farnesyl acetone is high even at room temperature. This indicates the anti-mite effect has not been sustained even though the agent has strong anti-mite effect. In this study, we attempted to prepare polylactide microcapsule with farnesyl acetone for the purpose of sustainable dosage form of anti-mite agent. Microcapsule was prepared by solvent evaporation, which was a method of microencapsulation. The effects of preparation conditions on the enclosing efficiency, the release of microcapsule and anti-mite effect of microcapsule were investigated.

Title Alternative Rain-water Retention of a Small-scale Upland Field in a Rainy Year and a Droughty Year

Abstract From the standpoint of water resources development and environmental preservation, rain water retentivity of agricultural and forest lands are evaluated. Measurement of rainfall and runoff has been carried out at the reclaimed upland field of 4.55 ha since 1981. In this article, water retention characteristics of this study basin is compared in a rainy year of 1993 and a droughty year of 1994. In cases of rainfall less than 20mm, most of the rain water infiltrates into the soil layer. On the other hand, about 75% of a heavy rain, such as 300 mm in 1993, runs off the soil surface. Within the infiltrating rain water, the ratio of water which is kept by capillary action and can be used by crops is estimated to be less than 40% in months of rainfall more than 150 mm, but in months of rainfall less than 50 mm, it is estimated that more than 80% of rainfall can be used by crops. The ratio of monthly rainfall which contributes to base flow recharge is 0 to 12% regardless of rainfall amount.

Title Alternative Effects of ultrasonic treatment on the preparation of transparent glass-ceramic phosphor

Abstract The effects of ultrasonic surface treatment (UST) on the crystallization behavior and optical emission properties were investigated for the transparent glass-ceramics prepared from calcium aluminosilicate glasses co-doped with Eu(2+), Nd(3+). The glass-ceramics A were prepared by sintering a glass 45CaO・45Al(2)O(3)・10SiO(2) (mol%) containing 0.5Eu(2)O(3)+1Nd(2)O(3) under a 2% H(2)+98% Ar reducing atmosphere. In the glass-ceramics A, three crystalline phases, CaAl(2)O(4) (CA), CaAl(4)O(7) (CA2) and Ca(2)Al(2)SiO(7) (CAS) were commonly confirmed by X-ray diffraction. No drastic change in the amount of the precipitated crystalline phases was observed even in the case using UST of CA powders. It was suggested that the optical emission properties of the glass-ceramics A was responsible for the CA2 crystals. The glass-ceramics B were also prepared from a 51CaO・42Al(2)O(3)・7SiO(2) glass. The CA crystals were separately precipitated in the glass-ceramics B. In particular, a large amount of CA was successfully produced by stirring the UST suspension to prevent the sedimentation of the UST particles. The glass-ceramic B so-prepared showed strong photoluminescence but weak phosphorescence compared with other glass-ceramics B, indicating that the photoluminescence and phosphorescence were originated in different electron-trapping levels. The amount of the trap levels associated with the long lasting phosphorescence, such as oxygen vacancies, was probably small in the glass-ceramic B prepared with the stirring UST.

Title Alternative Decontamination of Waste-water by Metal Phthalocyanines Encapsulated in Polymeric Microcapsules

Abstract Polymeric microcapsules encapsulating iron phthalocyanine (Fe-Pc) and zinc phthalocyanine (Zn-Pc) were successfully prepared in this study. Absorption spectra of polymeric microcapsules encapsulating metal phthalocyanines were measured in visible light range. It was expected from the results that the polymeric microcapsules encapsulating metal phthalocyanines showed high photocatalytic activity upon irradiation with visible light such as sunlight. The catalytic and phtocatalytic activities of encapsulated Fe-Pc and Zn-Pc were investigated in the decomposition of methylene blue in water. The encapsulatedd Fe-Pc with H(2)O(2) exhibited a high catalytic activity. Methlene blue was efficiently decomposed by interaction of Fe-Pc with H(2)O(2).

Title Alternative Morphology Control of Aromatic Polymers during Polymerization

Abstract Morphology and formation mechanism of poly (4'-oxy-4-biphenylcarbonyl) (POBP) crystals obtained by solution polymerization were firstly treated. It was concluded that the formation mechanism of the bundlelike aggregates of fibrillar crystals in POBP was fundamentally simillar to that in POB whiskers. Secondly the copolymerization effects of m-acetoxybenzoic acid and 4-(4-acetoxyphenyl) benzoic acid on the morphology of POB whiskers were studied. The experimental results strongly supported our proposal for the formation mechanism of whiskers which was consisted of crystallization of oligomers with a critical length as lamellae from solution and solid state polymerizationof oligomers between lamellae. Finally, the formation mechanism of poly (p-oxycinnamoyl) spherical products during solution polymerization was treated. The formation of these spherical products could be understood by overlapped phase diagram of melting depression curve and consolute curve of oligomers-solvent system.

Abstract Binding energy of O1s core electron measured in XPS is a candidate to determine new scale of Lewis basicity of oxide ion in glass. Some mathematical expressions for the basicity or XPS chemical shift, such as charge parameter and optical basicity, are compared with experimental O1s binding energy in binary alkali oxide glasses. The expressions so far in use need some modification in parameters. A new empirical expression introduced in this paper gives new concept and universal scale of basicity.

Title Alternative Dynamics of the Indian Automobile Industry: Recent Growth and Location

Abstract In recent years, India has enjoyed economic prosperity that she had never experienced from the time on the independence. This article discusses dynamics of the automobile industry, one of the highest growth manufacturing sectors under the liberalization policy in the 1990s. After a brief historical explanation of the industry, the author describes corporate strategies of new comers, classified into three divisions; i.e. passenger car, commercial vehicle and two wheelers. Then he also analyze their distribution patterns from the view point of transport cost and Indian industrial location policy. The location of car assembly units in the 1990s tends to concentrate in greenfields on the outskirts of the existing agglomerations of the automobile industry.

Abstract With the increase of underground construction in metropolitan areas in recent years, the problem of associated earth retaining works cutting off the natural flow of groundwater has increased in both scale and extent. The authors are proposing a new diaphragm wall method that does not inhibit the flow of groundwater. This paper describes the verification of the detour permeation achieved by the new diaphragm wall method and the experimental results related to the blockage of this groundwater flow.

Abstract The agricultural water has manifold functions for farming at community level. However, along with the difficulties to maintain the agriculture water path that are caused by the decreasing of farmers and the aging of the society, the agricultural water is losing its functions even that as water resource for local community. This paper presents a survey of the residential awareness on regional water utilization to find the possibility for the maintenance of agricultural water path. Economic evaluation is tried for the regional warter utilization function. This study is carried out at a regional level that covers both farming households and non farmers. Following three points can be confirmed based on the results of questionnaire survey. Firstly, local citizens admit that the agricultural water does have some values (3,037 Yen per household per year). Secondly, the higher the environmental awareness is, and the longer the citizen has lived there, the higher evaluation to function of the agricultural water can be observed. Thirdly, even within those who is holding high evaluation to the agricultural water, it is thought to be quite difficult to maintain the agricultural water path due to the aging of the society and uneven distribution of the participants.

Abstract In this paper, the tendency of the number of tourists was examined for some 30 years at several sightseeing-areas in Okayama prefecture. Recently, large-scale parks on well-known theme have been built in Japan, the management strategy of sightseeing-spots is becoming harder. However, it is important for us to understand the peculiarity of local sightseeing-areas and advertise the information on unsophisticated nature and culture linked with surrounding ecological system consistently. Sustainable management of sightseeing-areas is affected and sustained by the thought and life-style of peoples living in the adjacent areas.

Abstract In this paper, we examined the landscape and sightseeing at Bittchu-Kokubunji in Okayama prefecture carrying out the questionnaire survey to tourists and local residents. Both tourists and local residents estimate that the landscape ofBittchu-Kokubunji is wonderful, and it has several images such as historical, quiet, and old-fashioned, etc. AlthoughBittchu-Kokubunji is one of the famous tourist resorts in Okayama prefecture, there are quite few tourists compared with the degree of notability. Almost all tourists' age was 50 or more. As more active sightseeing activities, the number of times of holding events, such as an announcement of traditional performing arts, lighting of a five-storied pagoda, photograph or a sketching convention, needs to be increased. An attractive tourist resort should be created by the cooperation of local residents and administration.

Title Alternative Improvement of complementary relationship-based evapotranspiration model

Abstract Advection-Aridity(AA) model can calculate actual evapotranspiration by using only meteorological data. However, comparing the model with Penman equation showed that AA model doesn’t properly evaluate evapotranspiration from urban moisture area. In urban area, Actual evaporation from water calculated by AA model(E) are much less than that by Penman equation(Epo). Multiple regression analysis using estimation results indicates that the difference between the models is due to the difference of the sensitivity to vapor pressure deficit between the models. To improve this problem, modification coefficient k, defined as k=a・albedo+b, is suggested. Regression coefficients a, b are determined as satisfying k=Epo/E for water and k=1 for urban surface. By using this coefficient k, evaporation from water is nearly equal to value estimated by Penman equation, while evaporation from urban surface is changeless.
